In The Event of Inclement Weather...

2/11/2016 -

In the event of inclement weather, there are always issues about access to facilities.  As you know, typically, if schools are closed, recreation activities are cancelled.  However, weekend activities are subject to the determination of the schools and the recreation department and we encourage you to check on whether activities are on as scheduled, or whether they are cancelled due to inclement weather.

The inclement weather hotline is 703-324-5264.  It is also our experience that oftentimes a "crawl" message is posted on Cox Communications cable channel 21 ( Fairfax County Public Schools ) or channel 16 ( Fairfax County Government ).

The website for the Fairfax County Public School, which will also often include a message about extracurricular activities, is www.fcps.edu .

Additionally, we will attempt to post a message on this website if we have access to that information during instances of inclement weather.

Fairfax Stars Announce 15th Annual THINK PINK Tournament of Champions, April 2 & 3

2/10/2016 -

The Fairfax Stars are pleased and proud to announce the 2016 Girls Tournament of Champions will be held the weekend of April 2nd & 3rd.  Once again the theme of the TOC will be "THINK PINK" as the Fairfax Stars continue to support the fight to raise awareness and find a cure for breast cancer.  For 15 consecutive years, the Fairfax Stars have hosted the Tournament of Champions in early April and for the past 10 years the tournament has sold out with teams from across the mid-atlantic region and most of the local programs in the DMV participating.  Many consider this to be the top tournament of the early spring and the place to be to test your progress in preparation for the April college evaluation period.

For more information and a registration form, please click:

2016 Fairfax Stars "THINK PINK" Tournament of Champions

As we have done every year, we will recognize a breast cancer survivor and celebrate the participation of those that share our commitment to raising awareness and making a difference in helping defeat breast cancer.

Please do not wait to reserve your spot in order to compete against some of the best teams in the DMV and across the mid-atlantic.  Girls teams grades 3 - 12 and Division I & II are invited to participate.

We would also like to again thank the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services and the Fairfax County Public Schools for their continuing support of constructive youth recreation activities in our community.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact the Fairfax Stars via e-mail at fairfaxstars@aol.com

You may choose a 2-day schedule with a 4-game guarantee or a 1-day 3-game schedule.  As always, we will work with you to try out best to accommodate any schedule requests.

Delaney Connolly is Making A Difference Both On and Off the Basketball Court

2/9/2016 -

Fairfax Star and Oakton High School junior Delaney Connolly is absolutely dedicated to being the best basketball player and teammate, best student, and best person that she can be and she works hard at all of it every single day.  She is a key and integral part of the 4th-ranked Cougars compiling an undefeated season so far and being highly ranked throughout the season.

However, Delaney is also making a huge difference in lives off the basketball court.  Her work and that of her Oakton teammates and coaches with Special Olympic children was featured on a segment of ABC News 7 on Monday night and the attached clip illustrates the magic of such relationships

http://wjla.com/sports/high-school/a-star-on-and-off-the-court

Making a difference every day and striving for excellence both on and off the court is clearly evident here in this example.

Delaney and her Oakton teammate Maddie Royle both played last summer for the Fairfax Stars U15 / 10th Grade Girls Nike Elite team that closed the 2015 showcase season by winning the prestigious Nike Nationals Invitational tournament championship in North Augusta, South Carolina, and playing in front of more than 700 college coaches.
