On Wednesday night, May 23rd, the 2012 Class of honorees was inducted, along with recognition of 2012 Scholar Athlete Award winners, and several special awards.  The event was attended again this year by Sully District Supervisor Michael Frey and we were delighted to be also joined by former Fairfax Star and Hall of Famer; Oakton High School All American; Duke All American; and current WNBA player with the Washington Mystics, Jasmine Thomas and her father Johnnie.

A special team award was bestowed on the 2011 Fairfax Stars U16 Girls Nike Elite Premier Showcase team that finished the 2011 summer travel season as one of two top ranked teams in America, claiming the championship of the Nike Summer Showdown in Chicago, and advancing to the championship game of the prestigious Nike Nationals Invitational to close the season.

Other special awards were presented to David Facinoli, Sports Editor for the Sun Gazette Newspapers; and David Samoranski with Stimulant Design, who has helped support the techical assistance for the Fairfax Stars website.

The Fairfax Stars AAU basketball program includes teams for girls and boys from ages 7 – 18. Each season teams are selected based on an open tryout, therefore all potential candidates are invited. The foundation of the program is a commitment to teaching fundamental basketball skill development and knowledge of the game. With a talented, experienced, and dedicated roster of volunteer coaches, the Fairfax Stars will enhance your basketball experience and love for the game in an environment of positive reinforcement and fun.
