Fairfax Stars U16 Boys Maroon Team Completes Outstanding Season- A Family Affair

Fairfax Stars U16 Boys Maroon, coached by Ivan Jones had a very successful season and represented the organization well. The team compiled a record of 46 wins and 17 losses. The team participated 16 tournaments of which they won 5 championships and had 1 runner-up. Tournaments participated in included Fairfax Stars, Battle of the Bull (Leesburg), Nova Heat Invitational, Big Shots ( Northern Virginia and Virginia Invitational), Hoop Groups ( Philly Jam Fest, Southern Jam Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Showdown ),  Charm City Adidas Classic, Southern UnderArmor Classic (VCU, Richmond), Maryland Invitational, and Virginia Invitational.

The team culminated the season at the ESPN Super Showcase  and Team Takeover Invitational tournaments. At the Super Showcase the team compiled a 3-3 record losing in the semi-final round and making it to the semi-final round at the Team Takeover Invitational.  The team represented well and had very strong showings at all the tournaments it participated in. In two of them, the team left a very impressionable mark as they competed and won against some impressive competition.

As a result of the team’s visibility, several of the players have begun to receive letters of interest from colleges. Several have been made offers and been accepted at private and Catholic High Schools. Through hard work and dedication this summer, all of them will make a significant positive  impact on their high school teams this winter.

What was impressive about the team was the camaraderie, fellowship, and positive attitudes of all the players regardless of the situation. They truly exemplified “family” in all they did. All of the players contributed in many ways throughout the course of the season. It is noteworthy to mention that the team rarely had any one player to be the leading scorer in successive games. Each game someone different stepped to the plate to lead.

Our supporting cast; our families were outstanding with fundraising and support. The parents/guardians made this year’s edition of the Maroon team a great one. Parents often had to travel great distances, take time off from work, and make great sacrifices to get the players places such as Neptune N.J (twice), King of Prussia, PA, Hampton, VA, and Orlando, FL.  A BIG THANK –YOU goes out to our parents/guardians, families, and friends.

A big thank you also goes to our assistant coaches and management staff. Assistant Coaches Cliff Johnson, Jason Jones, and Monitra Remy were invaluable in preparing our team for games and making in game adjustments to keep us on track. Team Manager, Mrs. Pinky Jones and Team Treasurer, Mrs. Joyce Johnson provided outstanding logistical and management.

This was a great year!
