Coach: Royce Keown

Royce is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a retired officer from the United States Air Force.  For 15 years while on active duty in the military, he volunteered to coach youth basketball and baseball for military youth teams.  During the last eight years, he has coached the 8/9-year-old age group at Quantico Marines Corps Base, the U10 and U11 Girls AAU teams in Prince Williams County, and the U8 boys and U9 Girls basketball teams for the Fairfax Stars.  In 1999, Royce led his U10 Prince Williams girls team to a 5th place finish at the AAU National Tournament in Orlando, Florida. 

This year, his coaching philosophy for the U9 boys will focus on fundamental skill development and improving the player’s knowledge of the game of basketball. High emphasis will be placed on defense.

The Fairfax Stars AAU basketball program includes teams for girls and boys from ages 7 – 18. Each season teams are selected based on an open tryout, therefore all potential candidates are invited. The foundation of the program is a commitment to teaching fundamental basketball skill development and knowledge of the game. With a talented, experienced, and dedicated roster of volunteer coaches, the Fairfax Stars will enhance your basketball experience and love for the game in an environment of positive reinforcement and fun.
