Coach: Adria Crawford

I grew up in Northern Virginia and started my basketball career early at 9 years old in fairfax county. I am a graduate from Thomas Edison High School and a senior at Georgetown University, where I played for the nationally ranked Hoyas for the past four years. Basketball, for so many years, has been the only thing I have known and it is much more than a hobby. Basketball is a passion and every experience helps me become a better person. This is my first year as a head coach for the program, but I played for the Fairfax Stars and had some coaching experience on the girls' side.

Coaching Philosophy: To work hard is to be successful. Without hard work, determination and effort, there will be little rewards reaped. If you work as hard as you can in every given moment, there will be benefits and endless opportunities. I look to teach the kids fundamentals in both life and basketball, and to push them to be better in all aspects.

Fairfax Stars 9U Make Big Waves at Ocean City

On June 10, 2012, the Fairfax Stars 9U Boys led by Coach Adria Crawford won the big championship, 21-11, at Northside Park Recreational Center over TTC in the Ocean City Beach Bound II Tournament.  The Stars went from averaging one win/weekend to establishing a three game winning streak and bringing home the gold.

Fairfax played the Vikings and TTC in the tournament, and had to faceoff with TTC again for the championship. All the players were on one accord as they were told they had to work twice as hard to beat a team you’ve already played before.

“I had to make sure they understood how difficult it is to beat the same team two times in a row. Just like we knew that number 12 was their go to player, they now knew everything we could do too, so I told them that they had to play twice as hard as the day before. Leave your heart out on the floor and play your hardest,” said Coach Crawford.

A 6-0 run sealed the deal for the Stars in the final five minutes of the game. Even scoring, offensive rebounds, and aggressive defense made it easy for Fairfax to coast to victory. In the second half, the Maroon & Black limited TTC’s scoring to four points.

The Stars came out strong in the first half of the championship game, as Lucius Overby knocked down two quick baskets, giving Fairfax a 4-0 lead. After the baskets, the Stars sat down and played tough defense, forcing turnovers which led to several fast break baskets.

TTC was not going to let the Maroon and Black take the game away easily as they attempted to climb back from their deficit. Number 12’s hot hand and an early foul bonus put them within 4 and at the end of the half the Stars lead 11-7.

In their first meeting with TTC, the Stars came out on top with a 23-14 victory.

Fairfax stepped on the court Friday night determined they were going home with a championship as it knocked out its first opponent, the Vikings, with a 25-5 win. The win was a group effort as every player scored. Sticking to its defensive mindset resulted in the Stars holding the opponent to only 5 points.

The Stars would continue to be on the path to victory as they were the only undefeated team in their bracket.

Fairfax is looking to increase its winning streak this upcoming weekend as they participate in the First Annual Father’s Day Classic Tournament in Oxon Hill, Md.
